“The most eye-opening thing is the interactions with other participants,
to find out that everyone struggles with the same issues.
After this course, I feel much more confident about my leadership skills.”
The Leadership Essentials Course is the original course at the International Emergency Department Leadership Institute (IEDLI) and has been offered since 2009. This one-week course consists of over 35 hours of interactive lectures and workshops. Participants will work in assigned groups with other emergency department professionals from a variety of countries to complete workshop activities and discuss lectures.
Together with ED leaders from around the world in the Leadership Essentials course, you will explore leadership topics that offer solutions to the challenges for emergency care today. Now is the perfect time for leaders to address organizational problems in their emergency departments. According to the World Health Organization, the global economic crisis presents a unique opportunity to make needed health reforms and find more efficient uses of limited health resources.
“It gave me a lot of good tips on how to be an equal in difficult conversations and negotiations.
And it provided good insight into how to implement a good quality program in my own hospital.”
In the Leadership Essentials Course, students will learn to:
• Establish the ED’s role within the hospital
• Educate and motivate a new generation of emergency physicians and nurses
• Improve efficiency and control costs
• Decrease overcrowding
• Develop quality improvement programs
• Form a strong administrative structure
The topics included in the Leadership Essentials Course are subject to change and are updated based on feedback from course participants and faculty.
This program is designed for doctors, nurses, and administrators who currently lead or plan to lead emergency departments.
“Very often, there is no preparation when someone takes up the role of an ED leader. Leadership for many requires training and education. IEDLI provides the basic training in preparation for one to take up the role without finding the problem too formidable.”
In addition to interacting with others within the classroom, Leadership Essentials Course students have the opportunity to network at social events during the course. Social events are included in the course registration fee and include a Monday night welcome reception, a walking tour, and the Wednesday night gala dinner.
